What is Task Chaining?
Task Chaining is breaking a large project into a sequence of smaller, connected AI prompts.
Think of it as a logical relay race where the output of one step becomes the input for the next.
Instead of asking the AI to be the author, editor, and researcher all at once, we use Task Chaining. Imagine a relay race. Each prompt is a runner. The output of the first prompt is the baton passed to the next. This keeps the AI focused and ensures you, the Pilot, stay in control of the quality at every turn.

The 3-Link Chain Framework
For drafting and research, follow this reliable 3-Link Chain:
- Link 1: Summarize & Extract
- Link 2: Draft the Outline
- Link 3: Expand Section-by-Section
Here is your framework for success. First, Link 1: Summarize and Extract. You feed the raw notes in and ask for key themes and goals. Next, Link 2: Draft the Outline. Use those extracted points to build a logical structure. Finally, Link 3: Expand Section-by-Section. You focus the AI on one part of the outline at a time for maximum depth.

Avoiding Common Pitfalls
Even with chaining, watch out for these three traps:
- The One-and-Done Trap: Expecting perfection in one go.
- Context Loss: AI 'forgetting' early details in long chains.
- Botsitting: Fixing a bad draft for longer than it takes to write it.
Beware of these traps. Don't fall for the 'One-and-Done' trap; it leads to slop. In long chains, the AI might lose context—periodically re-paste your core goals. And finally, avoid 'Botsitting.' If you're spending more time fixing a bad draft than writing it yourself, stop and simplify your instructions.
