Assessing and Auditing Legacy Projects
The Migration Mindset
Transitioning to Cloud-Native
Before moving a single file, you must shift from a desktop-bound mindset to a cloud-native strategy. Auditing isn't just about moving content; it's about evaluating value and future-proofing your library.
Welcome to the first step of your migration journey. Moving from Articulate 360 to Claro is more than a file transfer; it is a paradigm shift. Instead of managing disconnected .story or .rise files, you are moving toward a centralized, collaborative ecosystem. A thorough audit ensures you only migrate what adds value, saving time and resources in the long run.
- Audit to avoid 'garbage in, garbage out'
- Identify high-value assets for centralized management
- Determine the best destination: Claro or Flow
The Audit Checklist
Critical Audit Criteria
Use these four pillars to evaluate your legacy Articulate projects. Not every course deserves a direct rebuild.
- Content Relevance
- Technical Complexity
- Asset Availability
- Responsive Requirement
To audit effectively, we look at four pillars. First, is the content still relevant? If it's outdated, don't migrate it. Second, technical complexity. Does it use custom JavaScript or heavy triggers in Storyline? Third, asset availability. Do you have the high-res originals, or just the published output? Finally, responsiveness. Does the new version need to be truly responsive in Flow, or pixel-perfect in Claro?
- Content Relevance: Is the info still accurate?
- Technical Complexity: Are there complex triggers or JS?
- Asset Availability: Do we have the original source media?
- Responsive Requirement: Does it need to work on mobile?
The Migration Decision Matrix
Categorize Your Content
Based on your audit, place each project into one of the Three R's: Retire, Refresh, or Rebuild.
Now it's your turn. I'll present three course profiles. Drag them to the correct migration category based on their audit results. Excellent choice. Matching the right content to the right destination is key to a successful migration strategy. Not quite. Consider if the complexity requires Claro's precision or if Flow's responsiveness is the priority.
- Retire: Archive outdated content
- Refresh: Move Rise content to Flow
- Rebuild: Transform Storyline to Claro/Capture

Case Study: Sales Training Migration
You have a legacy Storyline course with complex branching and high-quality video assets. It needs to be updated for 2024 and must work perfectly on tablets. How would you audit and migrate this?
Read the Sales Training case study. Type your migration strategy in the box. Be sure to mention which Claro tool you'd use and why.
- Identifying the correct tool (Claro vs. Flow)
- Asset management strategy
- Technical considerations
