Extracting and Rebuilding Content
The Migration Mindset
Moving to Claro isn't a file conversion; it's a structured rebuild. Unlike desktop-bound tools, this cloud-native platform allows you to reconstruct experiences with centralized power and team-wide collaboration.
Welcome to the core of your transition strategy. Moving from Articulate to Claro isn't just about moving files; it's a shift from desktop silos to a cloud-native ecosystem. Instead of a simple conversion, we approach this as a structured rebuild that unlocks new levels of efficiency and scalability.
- Transitioning from desktop-based to cloud-native architecture
- Focus on high-value asset harvesting
- Rebuilding for scalability and responsiveness
Harvesting from Storyline 360
To rebuild, you must first harvest. Storyline offers specific tools to export media and text without quality loss.
Before you build, you must gather your raw materials. In Storyline 360, use the Media Library to bulk-select and export every image and video into organized folders. For your text, you can Publish to Word to create a master script, or use XLIFF if you need to keep structured data for translations. The Media Library is your best friend here. It ensures you get the original quality files rather than compressed versions pulled from a slide.
- Bulk export via Media Library
- Publish to Word for scripts
- XLIFF for translation data
Harvesting from Rise 360
Rise 360 requires a different approach since it lacks a central media library. Use the Web Export method to find your assets.
Since Rise lacks a media library, we use a clever workaround. First, Export your course for Web. Inside that zip file, navigate to the 'scormcontent/assets' folder. This is where all your media lives, though you'll need to audit the filenames as they are often randomized.
- Export for Web to access the assets folder
- Audit randomized filenames
- PDF to Word conversion for clean text
The Power of the Central Asset Library
In Claro, assets are no longer trapped in project files. The Central Asset Library is your single source of truth.
Once you've harvested your assets, your first stop is the Central Asset Library. Think of this as the heart of your workspace. When you update a logo here, it automatically updates across every project using it. No more opening fifty separate files to make one change.
- Update once, change everywhere
- Team-wide sharing
- Metadata and tagging
Choosing Your Tool: Claro vs. Flow
Deciding between Claro and Flow depends on your migration goals.
Now, where do these assets go? If you need a pixel-perfect clone of a Storyline project with specific coordinates, choose Claro. But if you want to modernize legacy content into a truly responsive experience that works on any device, Flow is your answer. Notice how Flow content reflows for mobile, while Claro maintains its layout exactly as designed.
- Claro: Pixel-perfect, fixed layout (Storyline style)
- Flow: Truly responsive, modern (Rise style)
Mapping the Migration Workflow
Follow the 5-step execution plan to ensure a clean transition. Don't migrate 'trash'—use this as an audit opportunity.
Let's walk through the execution. First, audit your content—if it's outdated, leave it behind. Next, perform your bulk extraction. Upload everything to the Central Library. Map your structure, and finally, reconstruct your logic by mapping Storyline Triggers to Claro Actions.
- Audit, Extract, Upload, Map, Reconstruct
- Triggers to Actions mapping
Migration Strategy Session
Practice explaining your migration strategy. Use the Socratic Tutor to refine your plan for a compliance module refresh.
Imagine you're refreshing a 20-slide compliance module. You've decided to move it to Flow for better mobile access. Talk to your lead developer about how you'll handle the assets and logic. They'll ask questions to help you sharpen your strategy.
- Justifying the choice of Flow over Claro
- Explaining the benefit of the Central Library
- Addressing mobile accessibility
Avoiding Common Pitfalls
Success lies in avoiding old habits. Don't replicate complex workarounds when native features exist.
As you rebuild, watch out for these traps. Avoid images with hard-coded text; rebuild them in Claro for accessibility. Don't over-engineer triggers—Claro's native Actions or Co Pilot can often do the job more cleanly. And remember, you can now do all of this natively on your Mac browser—no virtual machines required.
- Avoid hard-coded text in images
- Don't over-engineer triggers
- Leverage the macOS advantage
Summary: Your New Workflow
You are now equipped to turn legacy Articulate projects into dynamic, cloud-native learning experiences.
You've mastered the extraction and rebuild process. By harvesting strategically and leveraging the Central Asset Library, you're not just moving content—you're future-proofing it. Whether you're cloning in Claro or modernizing in Flow, you're now building with the power of the cloud. Ready to start your first migration?
- Harvest strategically
- Centralize assets
- Choose the right tool (Claro or Flow)
- Reconstruct logic with Actions
